Stratolaunch, based in Mojave, California, has been awarded a $24.7 million contract by the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) to conduct hypersonic flight tests using its Spirit of Mojave launch platform. This initiative aims to enhance national defense capabilities against emerging hypersonic threats.

The contract involves using Stratolaunch’s 747 Spirit of Mojave aircraft to deploy Talon-A vehicles, facilitating extensive hypersonic testing. Scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025, the tests will expand Talon-A’s operational reach beyond the U.S. Western Coast, targeting multiple global locations. The mission’s objective is to test and validate advanced missile defense systems critical for countering hypersonic weapon threats.

Stratolaunch CEO Dr. Zachary Krevor emphasized the mission’s significance, noting that it would bolster national security by enabling rapid testing of new missile defense structures.
