Formlabs, renowned for its cutting-edge 3D printing solutions, has once again raised the bar with the introduction of the Form 4 series. Departing from traditional laser-based printing, the Form 4 embraces LCD technology, promising a significant boost in printing speed without compromising on quality.

The transition to LCD technology marks a strategic move by Formlabs to address the demand for faster printing processes in various industries, including model making, prototyping, dentistry, and beyond. By harnessing the power of a bright backlight coupled with an LCD screen, the Form 4 can cure entire layers of resin simultaneously, resulting in print speeds that are two to five times faster than its predecessor, the Form 3 Plus.

While some may raise concerns about potential sacrifices in resolution, Formlabs assures users that the Form 4 maintains exceptional quality standards. With a horizontal pixel size of 50 microns (down from 25 microns), the Form 4 still delivers impressive detail, complemented by a vertical resolution of 25 microns.

What truly sets the Form 4 apart is its ability to deliver unparalleled efficiency. Thanks to Formlabs’ innovative “Low Force Display” light engine and a range of faster-curing resins, print speeds can reach up to 100mm per hour vertically. This means that most prints can be completed in under two hours, with even small items like dental arches finished in mere minutes.

Moreover, the Form 4 boasts enhancements in build volume and build area, offering 30 percent more volume and 19 percent more area compared to its predecessor. This expansion allows for the production of larger and more intricate parts, catering to a wider range of applications.

In addition to its impressive performance upgrades, the Form 4 comes equipped with several user-friendly features. An integrated 5-megapixel camera enables users to monitor prints and create captivating timelapse videos, while a larger seven-inch touchscreen enhances accessibility. Furthermore, the inclusion of Wi-Fi 5, USB-C, and Gigabit ethernet connectivity options ensures seamless integration into modern workflows.

Addressing concerns about consumable costs, Formlabs introduces a range of “General Purpose Resins” priced at $99 per liter, offering improved toughness and color compared to previous options. Additionally, the company promises cost savings with more affordable resin tanks that last longer, further optimizing the printing experience.

For specialized medical and dental applications, Formlabs offers the Form 4B variant, tailored to meet the stringent requirements of these industries. Priced at $6,299, both the Form 4 and Form 4B are now available, heralding a new era of efficiency and innovation in 3D printing technology.
